The Whitewater Rotary Club meets from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm on Tuesdays at the Whitewater Country Club located on Hwy. 89 South, Whitewater, Wisconsin. Chartered in 1966, the Whitewater Rotary Club is part of Rotary International, the worldwide association of Rotary clubs whose mission is to provide service to others, to promote high ethical standards, and to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through its fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders.
We start our meetings sharing a meal and fellowship with each other. It is a great way to network and become acquainted with all club members and guests.
After the meal and fellowship, we usually host a guest speaker. At left, Mr. Greg Stewart from Whitewater High School is updating club members with a Social Studies activity that his students are participating in.
Promoting Rotary youth exchange is one way to advance world understanding and more than 8,000 young people from countries around the world participate in Rotary's Youth Exchange Program. The Whitewater Rotary Club has been very active in supporting local students who wish to study abroad, as well as international students who attend Whitewater High School. The Whitewater Rotary Club is currently hosting a young man from Ecuador. During 2011-2012, we hosted a young woman from Spain for the school year. She enjoyed her stay in Whitewater and had participated in many musical and sporting activities.
She visited Chicago with Ron and Marilyn Binning along with another exchange student from Germany. Above is a picture of the Chicago skyline from her trip. Before her, we hosted students from Bolivia, Taiwan and France. The Whitewater Rotary Club has hosted foreign exchange students each year since the late 1970's. We have also sponsored a number of Whitewater High School students, like Veronica, who wanted to experience life in another culture. Veronica, a WHS student, was sponsored by the Whitewater Rotary Club to study in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil where she spent her 2009-2010 school year.
